MR CTL Press Release

The Missouri River Clay Target League (MR CTL) 2018 Spring season will start at noon on Sun. Mar. 25 at the Capital City Gun Club (CCGC) located four miles north of Bismarck on Highway 83.  Due to conflicts with the Easter Holiday, Practice Week One rounds will be logged that afternoon at CCGC.  The schedule for the day is as follows:

SUN. MAR. 25 – MR CTL OPENING DAY
10am – CCGC Opens
11am – Coach & Volunteer Meeting
12 noon – Mandan Check-In & Rounds
1:15 pm – Legacy Check-In & Rounds
2:30 pm – Century & Shiloh Check-In & Rounds
3:45 pm – St. Mary’s & Bismarck Check-In & Rounds

“We’re excited to be kicking off a huge season for the six area schools participating in the North Dakota State High School Clay Target League (ND CTL),” said coach Duane Boeder, “we have an incredible facility, and an amazing amount of support from over 60 parents and community members who have stepped up to help things run smoothly as coaches and volunteers,” he concluded.

The program has grown from 35 participants last spring, to 48 last fall to over 180 shooters this spring. Starting with just Bismarck, Century and Legacy High Schools last spring, the MR CTL banner has expanded to welcome Mandan, St. Mary’s and Shiloh Christian School to the fold this season.  This is further evidence of the continued expansion of not only the ND CTL but its parent organization the USA Clay Target League.  While final numbers won’t be released until mid-April, it is anticipated that up to 20,000 students will shoot trap on more than 600 teams in 31 states as part of the growing, nationwide program.

ND CTL competition is in a virtual format, where students in grades 6-12 with firearms safety log their rounds at a local gun club, Those scores are then entered on the ND CTL website and are ranked and compared against those of similar-sized teams throughout the state.  Teams and individuals compete throughout the eight-week season for conference titles virtually and then in person for the state championship on June 16 and 17 at the Shooting Park in Horace, N.D.  The limited travel, co-ed nature and inclusive formatting allows everyone to compete; there is no bench and everyone’s score counts toward team success.

MR CTL teams are led by a staff of more than 30 coaches and supported by 30 volunteers who help instruct, score and supervise participants as part of the 2018 ND CTL spring season.  The program is funded by generous donations from local sponsors including: Presenting Sponsor Kupper Chevrolet, Kirkwood Scheels, Delta Waterfowl-Puddle Jumpers Chapter, Nodak Sportsmen’s Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Absolute Gun Dogs, Starion Bank, Lincoln Sportsman’s Club, Lexar Homes, Warford Orthodontics, Pretty Loaded, Lewis & Clark Wildlife Club, Pheasants Forever-Lake McKenna Chapter, Advanced Business Methods, Aspen Group, Capital City Sporting Clays, Wallwork Truck Center, Entzel Trucking, Houston Engineering, RMS TriTec, Action Motor Sports, Double H Guns, Angie Sersha, Dakota Community Bank, Central Dakota Strutters NWTF, iGear, and Mandan Sporting Goods.
