MR CTL Shooters Wrap Modified Spring Trap, Skeet Seasons

MR CTL Release

With modifications in place, the Missouri River Clay Target League (MR CTL) teams from the six Bismarck-Mandan area high schools finished off their spring league competition on Sat. June 20 in the North Dakota State High School Clay Target League (ND CTL).  Despite not having any practice weeks built into the schedule, 181 student-athletes took part in the trap competition and 17 participants shot in MR CTL’s first season of skeet competition.
“To have pulled this season off, with social distancing, face covers and constant hand sanitizing as a requirement took a lot of effort,” said MR CTL volunteer coach Nick Simonson, “but between the participants, coaches and volunteers, we made it happen while complying with the special rules we put in place,” he concluded.

Despite the generally windy conditions, many of MR CTL’s top shooters showcased the skills they were waiting to utilize when the season was postponed from its planned start in early March by the ND CTL.  Mandan Sophomore Calby Geiger came into his own in the modified season, leading all shooters with a season average of 23.7, and posting two perfect rounds of 25 during his run.  Behind him, Bismarck Junior Will Gebhardt averaged 23.4 for the season’s runner-up position, posting five perfect rounds, one in each week of competition.
A slew of Sabers found themselves at the top of the MR CTL competition as Senior (and reigning state champion due to the cancelation of this year’s event) Cassidy Lipelt averaged 23.2, followed by Freshman Samantha Bauer and Sophomore Rayce Gullicks with averages of 22.9 on the season.  Legacy Junior Isaiah Rexine and Mandan Junio Taylor Seefeldt rounded out the top seven with averages of 22.7.  Top trap shooters in the modified spring season for the six area schools were:

In total, 195 shooters between the six Bismarck-Mandan area high schools competed in the ND CTL spring season. Formed in 2015, the ND CTL competes in a virtual format, where student-athletes log their scores at a local shooting sports facility, which are then entered into the league’s online scoring system, where teams and individuals are ranked against their competitors statewide.  Weekly and season results will be posted at the end of June.

MR CTL teams are led by a staff of 25 coaches and supported by 55 volunteers who help instruct, score and supervise as part of the 2020 ND CTL spring season.  The program is funded by generous donations from local sponsors including: Presenting Sponsor Moritz Sport and Marine, Premier Shooting Sports Sponsor Kirkwood Scheels, the North Dakota Wildlife Federation, Mann Signs, Dakota Community Bank & Trust, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Absolute Gun Dogs, Lincoln Sportsman’s Club, North American Coal, Capital City Gun Club, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Clifford Erickson, LLLP, MDU Resources and 36 other sponsors in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
